Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Trek


Day 01: Arrival

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, you will be received by our representative and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you can either take a rest or spend your time exploring the city. Stay overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Trek preparation day in Kathmandu

Meeting with the guide for briefing and check list all the trekking gears or buy required gears.

Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola (730 m)-10 Hrs.

After breakfast, we will take a private bus to Soti Khola, enjoying the landscape. The first 4 hours are comfortable roads before the road gets bumpy. Several breaks during the day for meals/refreshment. Overnight at a teahouse.

Day 04: Soti Khola to Machha Khola (900 m) Trek; (6-7) Hrs.

After enjoying breakfast with a scenic view, we begin our trek for the day. The trail is is quite narrow and rocky, following the forest trails with many rivers, waterfalls, towering cliffs, we will encounter a few Gurung and Ghale inhabitants of the region on the way to Machha Khola. Overnight at a tea house.

Day 05: Machha Khola to Jagat (1350 m) Trek; (6-7) Hrs.

The narrow trail makes some minor difficulties and eventually crosses the Tharo Khola and reaching Khorlabesi. We will find a small hot spring in Tatopani. From the hot spring, we climb over another ridge, then cross the Budhi Gandaki on a suspension bridge. Now, we climb on a wide, well-crafted staircase, then across a landslide and over a ridge to Dobhan. Crossing the west bank of the Budhi Gandaki, we climb over a ridge, trek along the river and then climb towards the village of Jagat. Overnight at Jagat.

Day 06: Jagat to Lukuwa (2240 m) Trek; (6-7) Hrs.

We will climb over a rocky ridge to Salleri, and then descend to Sirdibas.  Continue upstream to a long simple hanging bridge. Climb up to Philim, a large Gurung village,  known for Japanese made school and police station. Walk past Philim to the north across a forest with the views of the narrowing valley and walk up north from Gum Pul to reach Lukuwa. Stay overnight at Lukuwa.

Day 07: Lukuwa to Chumling (2386 m) Trek; (4-5) Hrs.

Now the trail descend  about half an hour towards Lungwa khola and climbing irregular obstacle trail for more two hours north through pines and rhododendrons we reach Gumlung. Crossing the Siyar Khola, finally we will reach Chumling, lower Tsum, from where we can view Shringi Himal. Visit the old Chumling gompa, and the stone streets of the village. Stay overnight in Chumling.

Day 08: Chumling to Chekempar (3031 m) Trek; (4-5) Hrs.

This day will be more enjoyable to see the great view of Ganesh Himal. The trail takes us to the Gho Village, and resuming about 2 hours climb to Tsum takes us to the village of Chekempar. If the climate is favorable, we can view Himalchuli at 7893 meters and Ganesh Himal at 7140m. Overnight at Chekempar.

Day 09: Chekempar to Nile (3347 m) via Milarepa cave Trek;  (4-5) Hrs.

We trek through the villages of Ngakyu, Leru, Lama Gaun . We will visit the cave, where Saint Milerapa had meditated.  It is also famous for Pigeon cave. We will  continue our trail passing Burji, Phurbe and Pangdun villages, there is magnificent big Buddhist Stupa is sighted on the way to Chhule and Nile. Stay overnight in Nile.

Day 10: Nile to Mu Gompa (3700 m) Trek; (2-3) Hrs.

Today we will visit Mu Gompa, the largest monastery of this region situated at the highest and the most remote part of Tsum Valley. We will trek through the Tibetan landscapes, almost close to the Tibetan border. Climb up to the Mu Gompa and visit the monastery. Then after, we will visit the Dhephu Doma Gompa. We will be exploring the whole Mu Gompa area. Stay overnight.

Day 11: Mu Gompa to Chekemparo (3031 m) Trek; (5-6) Hrs.

Today our trek will be litter easier, We  pass through Lar Village visit the Rachen Gompa,  cross over a suspension bridge and trek to Chhekamparo via same trail back. Stay overnight in Chhekamparo.

Day 12: Chekemparo to Chumling (2385 m) Trek; (5-6) Hrs.

Today we will trace the same path walking downwards to reach our destination Chumling, the lower part of Tsum Valley. The village offers a beautiful view of Siringi Himal. We can explore the village and visit to the ancient Chumling Gompa. Overnight stay at Chumling.

Day 13: Chumling to Deng (1860 m) Trek: (4-5) Hrs.

After breakfast we trek towards Deng, We will walk over the Siyar Khola via a wooden bridge, The trail then leads back to Lokpa, which we’ve already passed through earlier on in the trek. Continuing, we divert from this trail before reaching Philim, and take the trial up to Deng. Overnight in a guest house.

Day 14: Deng to Namrung (2660 m) Trek; (6-7) Hrs.

After a brief walk beyond Deng, we cross the Budhi Gandaki and climb to Rana 1910m then to join a trail from Bhi, head west up the Budhi Gandaki valley. The trail then to Ghap through several landslide zones. A pleasant and careful walk after the last steep climb leads us to the neat village of Namrung (2660m). The place has some of the best teashops, a restaurant, and rest houses on the trek. Overnight in Namrung.

Day 15: Namrung to Lho (3180 m) Trek; (4-5) Hrs.

From Namrung, we again enter the Buddhism influenced region. Climb through the forest to Lihi. Enjoy the spectacular rise of the Ganesh Himal.  Descend to Sho. Another steep climb takes us to our today’s campsite on a ridge.

Day 16:  Lho to Samagaon (3530 m) Trek; (3-4) Hrs.

Walking in the shady fir forest is very enjoyable. A short climb to a plateau and the village Shyala. Huge mountains surround us, Himal Chuli and Peak 29 (Ngadi Chuli) to the left, Manaslu and large glaciers straight ahead, other snow summits to the right, at the far end of the valley we have just come from stands Ganesh Himal.  At the far end of the village, overlooking the valley stands the well-known monastery of Sama. Sama Gaon is a village inhabited mainly by the Tibetans and lies at the foot of Manaslu.

Day 17: Samagaon to Samdo (3860 m) Trek; (4-5) Hrs.

Descend to the Budi Gandaki, that has turned north, and follow it to a bridge over a side stream. The trail to the left leads to the Manaslu Base camp. The Larkya la Trail passes several mani walls as the valley begins to widen. It is an easy trail on a shelf above the river passing the juniper and birch forests of Kermo Kharka. We drop off the shelf, cross the Budhi Gandaki on a wooden bridge and climb steeply onto a promontory between two forks of the river. From a stone arch we can see a large white kani, finally passing through the kani we find Samdo.

Day 18: Samdo to Dharmashala (Ekle Bhatti) (4460 m) Trek; (4-5) Hrs.

We continue our walk down the edge, cross the wooden bridge over Budi Gandaki and begin walking upward. Cross two streams and witness the Larkya Glacier. Go around the valley of the Salka Khola, climb up again, and come to the stone guesthouse (4450 m) which is not a lodge but a kind of shelter called Dharmshala, also known as Larkya Phedi. We camp here today and have a rest to prepare for tomorrow’s crossing of the famous and most awaited Larkya Pass. After a short climb, we reach the ablation valley on the North side of the Larkya Glaciers.

Day 19: Dharmashala to Bimthang  (3590 m) Trek; (7-8) Hrs.

After an early start, we soon walk across the moraines of the glacier, making a gradual ascent, which becomes steeper only in the last section to the pass. From the pass, there are outstanding views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kangguru and the huge Annapurna II.  It is a longer day then usual to Bimthang, but to walk into these low pastures with the evening mist coming in and Manaslu, it is an experience not to be missed.

Day 20: Bimthang to Tilje (3010 m) Trek; (5-6) Hrs.

The route gets easier from today onwards. We start with a gentle climb through paddy fields towards the small Karcha La pass and descend through fig tree and rhododendron forests to Tilje.

Day 21: Tilje to Dharapani 2-3 hrs and then drive to Besi sahar 4 Hrs.

We will follow the trail downstream of Marshyangdi River, passing through the scattered villages to reach Dharapani, after we will take drive to Besi Sahar.

Day 22: Drive Besi Sahar to Kathmandu: 7 hrs

We will take a private jeep transportation on the way back to Kathmandu along the banks of the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers with splendid views of green hills, mountains, farming terraces and villages on both sides of road.

Day 23: Rest day in Kathmandu

Free day in Kathmandu for personal activities.

Day 24: Final Departure.
